James Gore

Sonoma County

James Gore is a purpose-driven public servant that inspires community action. As Sonoma County 4th District Supervisor, he has become a well-known champion for resiliency after leading the community through eight declared disasters, as well as a litany of other vital local issues, including climate change sustainability, affordable housing, and solutions for homelessness.

Prior to his election as County Supervisor, James was an Obama presidential appointee as Assistant Chief of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, where he oversaw resource management and conservation nationwide. James also volunteered for the U.S. Peace Corps in Bolivia, where he helped communities build water management systems and manage agriculture production.

James has a master’s degree in political management from George Washington University and bachelor’s degree in agribusiness from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He is fluent in Spanish and Italian.

The Gore family has deep roots in Sonoma County going back several generations. James proudly hails from Healdsburg where he and his wife Elizabeth, co-founder of Hello Alice, are raising two young children, Opal and Jacob.
